According to data from the social network, 18 Bulgarians have downloaded an application in the form of a poll giving access to personal information. However, the number of affected people is more than 35,718 times as the app has got access to their friends and respectively to their profiles.
In addition to contact list, user information included details such as email, birthday, hometown, place of residence, photos, videos, likes, and social network posts. Not all users are equally affected as app permissions have changed over time.
“We used the most extensive methodology possible.” Facebook said. “This is our best estimate of the number of people who directly installed the app and the number of friends whose data may have been collected.”
Facebook has already begun to notify at least 87 million worldwide users involved in the scandal.
For “Worldwide and in our country”, the company explained 97.2% of the installers were probably from the United States. 81.6% of all affected – participants in the poll and their friends, were staying in the US.
